What is a Sceptic (or Skeptic)?

Hello and welcome to all.

I have been thinking about this for a long time, and I now feel this is now the time to put this out there. I believe that Scouting has a lot to offer youth and adults all over the world, and we have an opportunity to help the people in the movement to think Sceptically.

A Sceptic is someone who uses critical thinking and the weight of evidence to inform their decision making process.

Ideally a Sceptic will start with an open mind on the subject, and using all of the available evidence and any experience that you come with, and make a decision.  Should any better evidence come to light in the future, my mind is open to the possibility of changing my position.

From what I can tell this is used as part of the scientific method. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method

I hope to be consistent in using this method but as we are all human (well most of us), but I am sure there will be times when my emotions or a preconceived idea will influence my decision.  I am certain that you will let me know if that happens.
